ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Pesticide standard value

When farmers grow crops, they sometimes have problems with bugs and pests that eat their plants. They can use something called pesticides to kill the bugs and protect their crops.

However, some pesticides can be harmful to people and the environment. So, the government sets rules called pesticide standard values to make sure that the pesticides used on food are safe for us to eat.

Think of it like a doctor checking to make sure you are healthy before you can play outside. In the same way, before fruits and vegetables can be sold to us, they must be checked to make sure they don't have too much pesticide on them.

The standard values tell farmers how much pesticide they are allowed to use on their crops, and labs test the food to make sure it's safe for us to eat. This helps keep us healthy and keeps the environment safe too.
