ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Pharisees

Pharisees were a group of people who lived in ancient times a long, long time ago. They lived in a place called Judea, which was part of a bigger place called Israel. The Pharisees were very important people who knew a lot about religion and rules. They wanted to follow all the rules of the religion and make sure that other people followed them too.

They believed that by following the rules, they could be closer to God and make God happy. They also believed that they were better than other people who didn't follow all the rules like they did. Some people didn't like the Pharisees because they thought the Pharisees acted like they were better than everyone else.

The Pharisees were very religious and they believed that God gave them the right to teach other people about the rules of the religion. They tried to live their lives according to the rules so that they could show other people how to do it too. They were like teachers who wanted to share their knowledge with other people.

Sometimes the Pharisees had disagreements with other people who followed the religion in different ways. They thought they were right and believed that their way was the best way to follow the religion. This caused a lot of arguments and sometimes it made people upset.

In the end, the Pharisees were very important people in the history of the religion and many of the traditions and rules they followed are still important to people who follow the religion today. Even though they had some disagreements with other people, they wanted to honor God and show other people how to do it too.
