Philopatry

Philopatry is a big word that means animals like to stay close to where they were born. Have you ever heard the saying "there's no place like home"? Well, animals with philopatry feel the same way! They don't like to move too far away from their home.

Just think about birds - they like to lay their eggs and raise their babies in the same nest that they were born in. They don't want to fly too far away because they know that their home is the safest and most comfortable place for them. Fish, too, have a kind of philopatry where they swim back to the same river or stream where they were born to lay their eggs and start a family.

Humans can also have philopatry! Sometimes people just feel really connected to the place where they grew up and they don't want to move too far away from it. It's like they have a special bond with that place and they want to stay close to it. And that's what philopatry is all about - staying close to your home and not wanting to leave!
