Phonograph cylinder

Okay kiddo, have you ever heard of a record player? Well, before records were invented, people used something called a phonograph cylinder to play music.

A phonograph cylinder is like a really small tube made out of wax or a similar material. It is about as big as a roll of coins and has music or sound recorded onto it.

To play the music, you need a special machine called a phonograph. The phonograph has a needle that touches the cylinder as it spins around. The needle moves up and down as it follows the grooves on the cylinder, which then produces sound.

So, when you play a phonograph cylinder, the music comes out of a small horn or speaker that is attached to the machine. It's like having your own mini concert right in your own room!

Today, we have lots of different ways to listen to music, like CDs and streaming services. But back in the old days, people loved their phonograph cylinders and would have collections of them to listen to whenever they wanted.
