Phonon

Phonons are tiny particles that help us explain how sound and heat move through solid materials. They act like a wave, bouncing from one part of the solid to another and carrying the energy of the sound or heat along with them. The bigger the solid, the more phonons are needed to carry the energy, which is why it takes longer for sound or heat to travel a longer distance.
