Phosphine oxide

Phosphine oxide is like a special chemical made up of tiny particles called atoms. It's kind of like building something with Legos. For example, when you use blue Legos, yellow Legos and red Legos together, you can make a green car.

Phosphine oxide is made up of different atoms too. Specifically, it's made up of one phosphorus atom (which we can call Mr. P) and three hydrogen atoms (let's call them H1, H2, and H3).

Now, Mr. P and H1, H2 and H3 all work together to make a very helpful chemical that scientists use for many things. One of the cool things this chemical can do is help make long-lasting and strong plastic that we can use for all sorts of things, like making toys or even the phone you might hold in your hand.

But, Mr. P and H1, H2 and H3 can also come together to make a bad gas that can be poisonous to people and animals in certain situations. So, scientists have to be very careful and use this chemical safely!
