ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Photocarcinogen

A photocarcinogen is a substance that can cause cancer when we are exposed to sunlight or other types of ultraviolet radiation, which is a type of light that we can't see. Imagine that you are a plant that needs sunlight to grow, but too much sunlight can also hurt you. Just like plants, our bodies need sunlight to make Vitamin D, but too much sunlight can cause damage to our cells and increase the risk of getting cancer. Photocarcinogens are like bullies that make the sunlight even more dangerous for our bodies. They can cause changes in our cells that make them grow out of control and become cancerous. That's why it's important to protect ourselves from too much sun exposure and avoid using products that contain photocarcinogens.
