ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Photodetection

Photodetection is like playing a game of hide-and-seek, but instead of seeking a person, we are seeking light!

In order to play this game, we use a special tool called a photodetector. When light finds its way to the photodetector, it gets caught just like how mommy catches us when we're playing hide-and-seek.

The photodetector uses tiny sensors to catch the light and turn it into an electrical signal. Think of it like turning on a light switch – when we flip the switch, the lightbulb turns on because an electrical signal is telling it to. The same thing happens with the photodetector – the electrical signal tells our computer or device that light is present.

We can use photodetection to do cool things like take pictures and read barcodes. It's like magic, but it's really just the power of light and electricity working together!
