ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Piping and instrumentation diagram

A piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) is like a map that shows the different parts of a system and how they connect and work together.

Think about your body like a system. You have different parts, like your brain, heart, and lungs. They all work together to keep you alive and healthy.

Now imagine drawing a picture of your body and all its parts. You might draw lines that show how blood flows through your veins and arteries, or how air moves in and out of your lungs.

A P&ID does the same thing but for things like factories or power plants. It shows how different equipment and pipes work together to make something happen, like mixing ingredients or making electricity.

There are symbols for things like valves, pumps, and tanks that help show how things are connected. So a P&ID is really just a picture with a lot of symbols that helps people understand how a system works.
