Planet Hunters

Okay kiddo, do you know what planets are? Yes, they are big balls of rock or gas that go around the sun. But did you know that there are many planets out there that we haven't discovered yet? These planets are very far away from us and are hidden in the stars.

This is where planet hunters come in. They use really cool telescopes to look at the stars and see if there are any planets orbiting around them. But how can we see planets if they are so far away? Well, when a planet goes around its star, it makes the star wobble just a tiny bit. This wobble can be detected by the telescope and it can tell us that there is a planet there.

But there's another way we can find planets too! Sometimes, when a planet goes in front of its star, it makes a little shadow on the star's surface. This is called a transit, and we can see it with our telescopes. When we see a transit, we know for sure that there's a planet out there!

Planet hunters are always looking for new planets so that we can learn more about our universe. Who knows, maybe one day we'll find a planet that's just like Earth!
