Planetary cartography

Planetary cartography is the process of making maps of planets. In the same way that people like to make maps of Earth, with cities, roads and lakes, planetary cartographers make maps of planets like Mars or Mercury. Scientists use the maps to help them understand more about the planets they are studying and they might be used to find out where something interesting is on a planet.
