Player piano

A player piano is a special kind of piano that can play music all by itself! It has special mechanisms inside that allow it to play without a person actually sitting at the piano and playing the keys.

You might be wondering how the player piano knows what music to play. Well, there are special paper rolls that have little holes punched into them. When the roll is inserted into the piano, the holes on the paper line up with little pins inside the piano.

When the player piano is turned on and the paper roll is inserted, the pins start moving up and down as the paper roll is pulled through the piano. When a pin goes up, it pushes a small lever that makes a key on the piano play a sound. When the pin goes down, the lever goes back and the key stops playing.

This process happens very quickly, and the piano can play many notes all at once, just like a person playing the piano! This makes it sound like there is someone playing the piano, but it's really just the piano playing music all by itself.

Some people might think that player pianos are old-fashioned and not used anymore, but they are still enjoyed by many people today. They are also important historical artifacts that help us understand how music was played in the past.
