Pleuger rudder

A pleuger rudder is a special type of rudder that helps big boats and ships steer in the water. Imagine you are playing with a toy boat in the bathtub and you use your hand to make it go left or right. A pleuger rudder is like a giant hand for big boats. It is made of strong metal and is attached to the back of the boat.

When the captain wants to steer the boat, they turn a big wheel called the ship’s wheel. This wheel is connected to a special machine that moves the pleuger rudder. When the rudder moves to the left, the water pushes against it and makes the boat turn to the right. When the rudder moves to the right, the boat turns to the left.

The pleuger rudder is really important for big boats because it helps them move safely through the water. Without the rudder, the boat would be like a car without a steering wheel. It would be really hard for the captain to control where the boat goes, and it could crash into things or other boats. With the pleuger rudder, the captain can easily steer the boat and keep everyone safe!
