ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Plurale tantum

Okay kiddo, so there are some words in the English language that always come in groups or pairs. We call these words "plurale tantum".

For example, when we talk about glasses, we mean the pair of things that help you see better. You can't just wear one glass on your eye, right? That's why we always say "glasses" instead of "glass".

Another example is with scissors. You need two blades to cut things, so we always say "scissors" instead of "scissor".

So basically, plurale tantum are just fancy words for words that always come in groups or pairs. It might seem a little confusing at first, but it's actually pretty simple once you get the hang of it!
