ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Polarimetry

Polarimetry is like looking through special glasses to see the shape of light. Just like we can see different colors of light, we can also see the direction it travels in. Imagine your light as a wiggly line. Now imagine putting on special glasses that make it easier to see which way the wiggles are going - up and down, side to side, or diagonal. These glasses help you measure how much the light wiggles in each direction. Scientists use polarimetry to figure out what things are made of, like tiny molecules in medicine or dust and gas in space. It's like being a special detective for light!
