ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Pole splitting

Pole splitting is a type of electrical engineering that uses two separate pieces of metal (called poles) to split an electric circuit. It's used to control the flow of electricity in a circuit, like a dimmer switch in a light. You can adjust the amount of electricity going through the circuit by changing the amount of separation between the two poles. The more separation there is, the less electricity will flow through the circuit. Pole splitting can help save electricity, so that you don't need to use as much electricity to do the same job.
