ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Political repression

Political repression is when a government or group controls people and limits their freedom so that they cannot express their beliefs, think for themselves, or say what they really want. It can include things like arresting people who disagree with the government, not allowing people to vote, and controlling information in the media. It can also involve human rights abuses such as torture, forced disappearances and murder. In other words, political repression is when the government tries to stop people from speaking their minds and making their own choices.
