Polycystic ovary syndrome

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a complex condition that affects the way a girl's ovaries work. It's caused by problems with hormones - the chemicals in the body that control how it works.

Girls with PCOS usually have higher levels of male hormones, which can cause problems like unwanted hair growth and acne. They also have small cysts on their ovaries that don't let eggs be released regularly. This can make it harder for girls with PCOS to get pregnant when they're older.

Some girls with PCOS also have trouble controlling their weight and might have high blood sugar levels, which can increase the risk of type 2 diabetes.

The good news is that there are ways to manage PCOS, like eating a healthy diet, staying active, and taking medicine to help balance hormones. If you're worried about PCOS, make sure to talk to a doctor who can help you figure out the best treatment plan for you.
