Androgen-dependent syndromes

Androgen-dependent syndromes are medical conditions that affect people who have high levels of a hormone called androgen in their bodies. Androgens are special chemicals that help your body grow and develop, especially when you're going through puberty.

But sometimes, people's bodies make too much androgen. This can cause problems like acne, hair growth in places where it shouldn't be (like on a woman's face), or even baldness in men. These are all symptoms of androgen-dependent syndromes.

One very common androgen-dependent syndrome is called polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). This is when a woman's ovaries make too much androgen, which can cause irregular periods, weight gain, and fertility problems. It can also cause acne, hair growth on the face and body, and baldness in women.

Another androgen-dependent syndrome is called congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH). This is when a person's adrenal glands (which make androgens) don't work right, and they make too much androgen. This can cause male-like genitalia in girls, early puberty in boys, and other problems.

Overall, androgen-dependent syndromes are conditions that happen when the body makes too much of a hormone called androgen. This can cause problems like acne, hair growth, and irregular periods. But doctors can help by giving medicine or other treatments to help balance out the hormones in the body.
