ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Estrogen-dependent condition

When you're born, some people have parts of their body called ovaries that make a special chemical called estrogen. This estrogen is like a signal to other parts of the body to tell them what to do.

Some people's bodies need a lot of this estrogen to be healthy and work properly. But sometimes, too much of this estrogen can cause problems.

An estrogen-dependent condition means that there is something wrong that happens in the body when there is too much estrogen. For example, some people might grow lumps called tumors that can cause pain or make it hard to breathe.

Doctors can help by giving medicine or even taking out the ovaries to lower the amount of estrogen in the body.
