ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Polyline

A polyline is like drawing lines on a piece of paper with a pencil, but in a computer program. It's a way to connect points on a map, like when you trace a route that you want to follow to get somewhere.

Imagine you have a map of your town and you want to show someone how to get from your house to the park. To do that, you can draw a line from your house to the park on the map. That line is a polyline on the map.

A polyline is made up of lots of little straight lines that connect one point to another point. It's kind of like combining a bunch of dots to make a picture. The dots are the points on the map, and the lines connecting the dots make up the polyline.

The polyline helps to show the exact path that you will take to get from one point to another. It's useful when you're trying to show someone the way to go, or when you're trying to measure the distance between two points on a map.

Programs often use polylines when they are drawing maps or when they are tracking the movement of objects, like a delivery truck. So the next time you see a line on a map that connects two points, you'll know that it's a polyline!
