Stick number
Okay, imagine you have a bunch of sticks. Each stick is different, some are taller, some are shorter, some are thicker, some are thinner. Now, we want to know how many sticks we have without having to count them every time.
So, we give each stick a number. The first stick gets the number 1, the second stick gets number 2, and so on. This way, we can just say "stick number 5" instead of having to count each stick to find it.
