Polymorphism in Lepidoptera

Polymorphism in Lepidoptera means that some Lepidoptera - which is a category of large insects like butterflies and moths - can look very different from one another, even when they are the same species. This difference can be seen in the size of their wings, the color of their wings, and even the shape of their bodies. Polymorphism in Lepidoptera is usually caused by changes in the environment. For example, if there isn't enough food in a certain area, then some Lepidoptera will adapt to their environment and develop smaller wings as a way to reduce their energy consumption and make sure they have enough food to survive.
