ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Polytope model

Imagine you have a bunch of colorful blocks that are all different shapes and sizes. You can use these blocks to build all sorts of things like towers, castles, and houses. Now imagine you have a really big collection of these blocks and you want to use them to build something really complex, like a really big castle with lots of rooms and hallways.

A polytope model is like building a big, complex structure out of these blocks. But instead of just using any old block you want, you have to follow some rules about which blocks you can use and how you can fit them together. The blocks also have to be in a special shape called a polytope.

A polytope is like a special type of block that has a certain number of sides and angles. Just like how a square has four sides and four right angles, a polytope can have any number of sides and angles, but they have to be arranged in a special way.

So, to build a polytope model, you have to use these special blocks that are shaped like polytopes and fit them together in a certain way. You can make lots of different shapes and structures by combining these polytopes in different ways, but you always have to follow the rules of how they can fit together and what shapes they can be.

That's what a polytope model is all about: using special blocks that are shaped like polytopes to build really complex structures by following certain rules about how they can fit together.
