Pontic Greeks

Pontic Greeks are people who originate from a region called Pontus, which is located in the northeastern part of Turkey. They are called Pontic Greeks because they are of Greek descent and their ancestors settled in the Pontus region many years ago.

Like your family might be from a certain area or country, the Pontic Greeks have a special connection to Pontus because it is where their ancestors first lived. They have their own unique traditions, language, and music that have been passed down through the generations.

But life for the Pontic Greeks has not always been easy. In the 1920s, a lot of them were forced to leave their homes and move to Greece or other parts of the world. This was because of a war and changes in government that made it difficult for them to live safely in Pontus.

Even though they were forced to leave, the Pontic Greeks still remember their roots and work hard to keep their traditions and culture alive. They have formed communities all over the world, and they celebrate their heritage through festivals, music, and other traditions that help keep their rich history alive.
