When your friend wants to play with a specific toy, they will send a message over the internet with your computer's IP address and the port number that matches the toy room they want to play in. Then, your computer will use port address translation to make sure the message gets sent to the right room so that your friend can play with the correct toy.

So, just like how your special mailbox number helps the mailman find your house and the correct room, port address translation helps your computer send messages to the right room for your friends to play in!
