ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Portuguese alphabet

The Portuguese alphabet is like a special set of letters that people in Portugal and other places where Portuguese is spoken use to read and write. It's like a secret code that they use to communicate with each other.

There are 26 letters in the Portuguese alphabet, just like there are in the English alphabet. However, some of the letters are a little different. For example, one of the letters is called "ç" (pronounced "c-cedilla") and it has a little tail or hook under it. This letter makes a special "sss" sound, like in the word "aço" (pronounced "ah-so"), which means "steel" in English.

Another difference between the Portuguese and English alphabet is that there are some letters that are not used as much in English, like "k", "w" and "y". These letters are used in some Portuguese words, but not as often as the other letters.

Learning the Portuguese alphabet is important if you want to be able to read and write in Portuguese. Once you know the letters, you can start putting them together to make words and sentences, and you can start to understand what people are saying and writing in Portuguese.
