ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Portuguese verb conjugation

Hey kiddo! Do you know that verbs are words that show action? Like "run", "jump", "eat"? In Portuguese, we have many different verbs, and we change them depending on who is doing the action and when they are doing it. We call that verb conjugation.

Let's imagine that you are talking about yourself. If you want to say "I run" in Portuguese, you would say "eu corro". But if your friend is talking about herself, she would say "eu corro" too. So we change the verb depending on who is doing the action.

We also change the verb depending on when the action is happening. If you want to say "I will run", you would say "eu vou correr". But if you are talking about something that already happened, you would say "eu corri".

Now, there are lots and lots of verb conjugations in Portuguese, and it can be pretty tricky to memorize them all. But don't worry, with a bit of practice you'll get the hang of it!
