ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Posse comitatus

Posse comitatus is a law that was passed in the United States over 100 years ago. It says that the military (soldiers in the army) cannot be used by the government to enforce laws unless they are specifically asked to do so by the President. This law was put in place to make sure that the military is not used by the government to take away people's rights or make people do something they don't want to do. It also means that it is not okay for the government to use the military to do things like arrest people or act as police officers.
