Post–Kyoto Protocol negotiations on greenhouse gas emissions

Okay kiddo, remember how we learned about global warming? That's when the Earth gets too hot because there are too many greenhouse gases in the air. The Kyoto Protocol was a plan that lots of countries agreed to follow to try to reduce these greenhouse gases.

But now that the Kyoto Protocol is almost over, countries need to decide on a new plan to keep working together to fight global warming. They are having negotiations, which is like a big meeting where they talk about what they think the new plan should be.

Some of the countries are arguing because they think they are doing more than other countries to reduce greenhouse gases, and they don't want to be punished or have to pay for more things. Other countries think that everyone needs to work together because we all live on the same planet and need to take care of it.

There are lots of important decisions to make, like which countries should be responsible for reducing the most greenhouse gases and how much money should be given to help countries that aren't as rich to do things to reduce greenhouse gases.

It's important that countries figure out a new plan because if we don't keep working on this, the Earth could get even hotter and it could be bad for lots of people and animals.
