Postage stamp demonetization

Okay, so imagine you have a really cool sticker that you got from a vending machine. This sticker has a special picture on it and you're really happy to have it.

Now, imagine that one day, the vending machine company decides that this special sticker is not going to be cool anymore. They tell everyone that they can't use it or trade it for anything anymore. This means you can't use it to decorate your notebook or show it off to your friends.

This is what happens when a postage stamp gets demonetized. A postage stamp is a special sticker that you put on an envelope to send a letter or package to someone. The government, which is in charge of making these stamps, sometimes decides that a stamp is not useful anymore. They do this by saying that the stamp is "out of date" or "no longer valid".

So, why would they do this? Well, sometimes the price of sending a letter or package changes. If you have an old stamp from a long time ago, it might not be enough to cover the cost of sending something today. When this happens, the old stamp gets demonetized, which means you can't use it to send mail anymore.

Think of it like your parents telling you that your old toys are too small or too babyish for you now. You have to move on and find new toys to play with. That's sort of what happens with postage stamps. They become too old or outdated, so we have to find new stamps to use if we want to send mail.
