ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Power-to-weight ratio

Hey there kiddo! Do you know what power is? Power is the ability to do work or make things happen like moving something.

Now, imagine two cars. Both cars have different engines. One car has a very strong engine which means it has a lot of power. The other car has a smaller engine which means it has less power.

But just because one car has more power doesn't necessarily mean it's better. Why do you ask? Because a car also has something called weight. Weight is how heavy something is like Lego set.

Think of it this way, if you pick up a big Lego set it can be really heavy for you to handle. Similarly, if a car is too heavy it can be hard for the engine to move it around.

So, when we talk about power-to-weight ratio, we're trying to see how powerful the engine is compared to the weight of the car.

If a car's weight is too high in relation to its power, it won't be able to move as quickly. On the other hand, if the car's weight is low compared to the power of the engine, the car can move very quickly.

So, power-to-weight ratio is basically how strong an engine is compared to how heavy something is. A car with a better power-to-weight ratio will be able to accelerate faster, reach higher speeds, and climb hills better.

I hope that makes sense!
