Prader-Willi Syndrome

Prader-Willi Syndrome is a condition that some kids are born with that can make them feel very, very hungry all the time.

Our bodies have something called hormones that tell us when we are hungry or full. But in kids with Prader-Willi Syndrome, those hormones can get all mixed up and they may never feel full, no matter how much they eat. That might sound kind of cool, like being able to eat as much ice cream or candy as you want, but in reality it’s not good for their health.

Kids with Prader-Willi Syndrome also tend to have weak muscles when they’re babies and may have a hard time learning to crawl or walk. They might not be as coordinated as other kids and could have trouble with balance.

Sometimes kids with Prader-Willi Syndrome have a hard time with their school work because they can have trouble paying attention or with their memory. They might need extra help from their teacher or some special classes to be successful in school.

It’s important for kids with Prader-Willi Syndrome to eat healthy foods and for their families to help them not overeat, even if they’re always feeling hungry. With the right care and support, kids with Prader-Willi Syndrome can still enjoy doing things they love and have a happy, healthy life.
