ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Pre-production

When grown-ups want to make something like a movie or a TV show or something else cool, there are a lot of steps they have to do before they can actually start filming or making it. One of the first steps is called "pre-production."

Think of it like when you want to build a tower with blocks. Before you start stacking the blocks, you need to make a plan for how tall you want it to be, what colors you want to use, and how many blocks you will need.

In pre-production, grown-ups like to make plans too! They start by coming up with an idea for what they want to make. Then they write down a story or a script, which is almost like a really long story that tells every detail about what will happen in the movie or TV show or whatever it is.

Next, they need to figure out where they want to film it, what kinds of things they will need in the scenes (like furniture, props, or decorations), and who they want to act in it. Sometimes they make a big drawing of what each scene will look like, with little pictures of people and things inside.

Then, they have to make a schedule for when they will film each scene, and decide how long they will need to film, what time of day they will start, and who will need to be there. This part is called a "production schedule," and it helps everyone who is working on the project know what is happening when.

All of these steps are really important because they help make sure that everyone knows what they are supposed to do and what the final product will look like. Once all the planning is done, they can start filming or making the project for real!
