ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Predation

Predation is when an animal hunts and eats another animal. Just like when we eat our food, animals need to eat to survive too. Think of it like playing a game of tag, but instead of tagging the other person, the predator catches and eats the prey.

For example, a lion is a predator, and it hunts for food. It uses its sharp teeth and powerful muscles to run after and catch its prey, like a zebra. The zebra is the prey, and it tries to run away from the lion so it doesn't get eaten.

Predation is a really important part of the balance of nature. It keeps the food chain in check, just like when we eat vegetables to be healthy and strong. Without predators, some animals might overpopulate and eat too much, which could harm the environment.
