Once upon a time, a really, really long time ago, there were no people in Britain. The land was filled with big animals like woolly mammoths, giant deer and wild horses.
Then, some really brave people walked all the way from Europe to Britain. They were called hunter-gatherers because they hunted animals and picked berries to eat. These people were also really smart and they learned how to make fire and use sharp stones to make tools.
Over time, more people came to Britain and they started to build houses and farm the land. They called themselves the Neolithic people and they were really good at growing crops like wheat and barley.
Later, the Bronze Age people came to Britain. They were even smarter than the Neolithic people because they could make tools and weapons out of bronze. They also built big stone circles like Stonehenge that we can still see today.
Finally, the Iron Age people came to Britain. They were the last prehistoric people to live there. They built hill forts and lived in roundhouses made from mud and straw. They also wore really cool clothes and made beautiful jewellery.
Today, we can see what prehistoric Britain was like because of the things that the people left behind. Their tools, weapons and buildings give us clues about their lives and how they lived a very long time ago.
