ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Prehistoric art

Long, long ago, before you and I were born, there were people who lived in caves and they had no smartphones or TVs. They lived with animals like mammoths and horses and they didn't have fancy homes like we do now.

But these people were very smart and creative. They liked to make things and express themselves. They started drawing things they saw around them on the walls of their caves. This is called prehistoric art.

They didn't use paint or paper like we do now. Instead, they used things like charcoal, dirt, and natural pigments to make colorful pictures. They used their fingers or sharp tools to draw.

Their drawings were really cool! They drew animals like horses, bison, and deer. They made handprints and footprints too. They also drew symbols that we may not know the meaning of today.

Some people think that their drawings were more than just art. They could have been used for telling stories or communicating with each other. It's amazing to think that these drawings were made so many years ago and we can still see them today!
