Pressure piling

Pressure piling is like giving a big bear hug to something to make it stronger.

Imagine you have a big pile of books that you need to carry. If you just pick them all up at once, it might be too heavy and they could fall. But if you wrap your arms tight around them, it makes them more stable and easier to carry. This is sort of like pressure piling!

Same goes for building things like dams. The water behind the dam can be very heavy and wants to push through, but the dam can use pressure piling to make it stronger. Engineers might build the foundation of the dam by stacking large, heavy rocks together and then pouring cement in between. When the cement dries, it squeezes the rocks tightly together, making the dam stronger overall.

Pressure piling is all about using pressure to make things stronger and more stable. It's pretty cool!
