Primum non nocere means "first, do no harm". This is a Hippocratic Oath that all doctors take. It means that doctors should always think carefully and consider the risks before doing anything that could possibly harm a patient. This can include giving certain medications or doing surgery, but also not giving medication or not doing something that could help the patient, if it could also cause harm. Doctors should always make sure to not do anything that could make a patient's condition worse.
