ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Printmaking

Printmaking is a way to make lots of pictures that all look the same. It's like when you use a cookie cutter to make lots of cookies that look alike.

To make a print, you start by creating a picture on a special surface called a "plate". You can do this with pencils, pens, or even by carving the plate with special tools.

Once you have your picture on the plate, you add ink to the surface of the plate. Ink is like paint, but it is special because it can stick to the plate without making a mess.

Next, you place special paper on top of the inked plate and apply pressure. This is usually done with a heavy roller.

When you lift the paper off the plate, you'll see the ink has transferred from the plate onto the paper.

This process can be repeated many times, creating multiple prints that all look the same.

Printmaking is a fun way to create art and make many copies of your work to share with others.
