ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Prisoner of conscience

A prisoner of conscience is someone who has been put in prison because they have said or done something that a government or a ruler does not like. They are not put in prison because they have broken a law, but because they have spoken out against something they don't agree with or because they have a different opinion. The person is not allowed to leave the prison and they can't see their friends or family. People around the world think that imprisoning people because of their beliefs or opinions is wrong, so we call that person a prisoner of conscience.
