ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Pro-drop language

Pro-drop language is like when mommy or daddy says "go clean your room" and you say "I already did it." You don't need to say "I" because it's already understood who you're talking about.

In some languages, like Spanish and Italian, they also don't need to say "I" or "you" or "he/she/it" all the time.

For example, instead of saying "yo tengo hambre" (which means "I am hungry" in Spanish) they can just say "tengo hambre" because the word "yo" is already understood from the way the sentence is structured.

This is called a pro-drop language because they can "drop" the pronoun (like "yo" or "tu") and still understand who is doing the action. It's like a secret code that everyone who speaks the language knows how to use.
