Protected health information

Protected Health Information (PHI) is information about someone's health that is special and private. It is protected by special laws that say that it has to be kept safe and confidential. That means that nobody else is allowed to see it or use it without the person's permission. Some examples of PHI are names, birthdates, medical records, and treatments that a person has received.
