ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Protecting power

Okay kiddo, protecting power means making sure that we don't lose the electricity that powers our homes and buildings. Just like we wear helmets to protect our heads while riding bikes, we have special equipment called "protective relays" that help prevent big problems from happening to the power system. These relays watch over the power lines and electrical equipment, and if they sense something that could cause a big disruption (like a tree falling on a power line), they send a signal to a breaker to turn that part of the system off. This keeps the power flowing to everything else, and prevents blackouts or fires from happening. So, just like how we need to look out for dangers and protect ourselves, we need to do the same for the electricity that powers our world!
