ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Protein sequence

Protein sequence is like a list of words that tells us what order to put the pieces of a protein together in. Proteins are made up of tiny pieces called amino acids, and the sequence tells us which ones go together and where. Amino acids are like the letters of the alphabet - different combinations make up different proteins. Just like changing some of the letters in a word can change the meaning of the word, changing some of the amino acids in a protein sequence can change the shape and function of the protein.
