Proto-Norse language

Proto-Norse language was the language that people spoke a really long time ago, before we had any history books or even written words. They lived in an area that is now called Scandinavia, which includes countries like Sweden, Norway, and Denmark.

Imagine you are playing with blocks, but you don't have a specific structure in mind yet. You are just putting the blocks together to see what might work. That's kind of what Proto-Norse was like. The people were using different sounds and putting them together to make words, but they didn't have rules yet.

As time passed, the people in the area started to develop new rules for their language. It was like they were building a tower out of their blocks- they needed to make sure everything was lined up just right so the tower didn't fall over. They started to add grammar rules and created a writing system so that they could keep track of their words better.

Eventually, the language they were using started to become different. People might be using different words or pronouncing things differently. This is just like how you and your friends might use different slang words or accents to speak.

Over time, the Proto-Norse language evolved into different languages, including Old Norse, which was used by the Vikings when they were ruling over parts of Europe. Even today, we can still find some remnants of Proto-Norse in modern Scandinavian languages.
