Provand's Lordship

Okay, so imagine you are playing a game with your friend. You both agree that whoever wins gets to be in charge of the game for the next round. This means they get to make the rules and say what everyone has to do.

Well, in the olden days, there was a similar situation with land. Nobles owned land, and they would let other people use and work on it. This was called "feudalism."

Now, let's say the noble who owned the land wanted to give someone else some power over the land. They might make that person a "provand's lord." This means that the provand's lord could use the land and make decisions about it.

But there was a catch! The provand's lord had to give something back to the noble who owned the land - usually some of the crops or animals raised on the land.

So, a provand's lordship is kind of like being a captain of a sports team. You get to make some decisions, but you have to follow certain rules and give something back to the owner of the field.
