ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Public intoxication

Public intoxication is when a person drinks too much alcohol or takes too many drugs, and then behaves in a way that is considered inappropriate in public.

Let's say you have a favorite stuffed animal named Teddy. If Teddy were to get too much juice to drink, he might start bouncing around and acting silly. Well, sometimes people can do the same thing when they've had too much to drink.

When a person drinks too much, they might start slurring their words, stumbling around, or have trouble walking straight. They might also act in ways that are not normal for them, like shouting or getting angry for no reason.

Now, if a person does all of these things in their own home, that's okay. But if they do it in a public place like a park, on the sidewalk or in a store, it can be a problem.

When a person behaves inappropriately in public because they are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, they can be arrested for public intoxication. This is why it's important to be responsible when drinking or taking drugs, and to not go out in public if you're feeling too intoxicated.
