ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Public phone

A public phone is a special type of phone that anyone can use. It is usually found in public places like on street corners, in parks, or in buildings like hotels or airports. You will see a big box-like thing with a phone on it, and sometimes a little roof to keep the phone dry.

To use a public phone, you need to put in some coins or use a special card, which you can buy at a store or from a machine. Once you have paid, you can pick up the phone and dial the number you want to call.

It's important to remember that other people might want to use the phone too, so you shouldn't spend too long on it. In many places, there is a time limit on how long you can use the phone for.

Public phones used to be more common before everyone had their own mobile phones. Nowadays, they can be a useful backup if your phone runs out of battery or if you need to make an emergency call.
