Dear kiddo,
Have you ever seen an advertisement for something and thought "I really want that!"? Well, someone named Edward Bernays helped create those types of ads.
Edward Bernays was a man who lived a long time ago, but he was important because he created something called "public relations campaigns." Public relations is basically how a company or person communicates with the public (lots of people).
Bernays was super smart and understood how people's minds worked. He knew that if he could make people want something, they would be more likely to buy it. So, he came up with some tricks to make people want things.
One thing he did was to create interesting stories that made people interested in certain products. For example, if a company was selling a new type of toothpaste, Bernays might make up a story about how dentists recommend it more than other toothpaste brands. This would make people think "Wow, if dentists recommend it, it must be good!"
He also created "opinion leaders," which were people who were famous or well-liked by a lot of people. If an opinion leader said they liked something, then lots of other people would want it too. Bernays would sometimes pay these opinion leaders to say they liked a product (which we now call "influencer marketing").
Overall, Edward Bernays was a very smart man who helped companies sell more products by creating public relations campaigns that made people want things. And all of these techniques are still used today!
